Twenty-five years of Chin Communications! Many clients and friends were able to join us on 12 July 2017 to celebrate at our anniversary party in Melbourne. Some of them we’ve known for almost the entire journey. Geoffrey Jiang is one such old friend. Over the last 20 years or so, Geoffrey has been one of our translators, interpreters, clients, friends, and more recently suppliers with his invaluable help on migration services through his business Green Card Migration. We’ve got to know each other’s families and stayed in touch all this time. He’s never let us down, so we weren’t surprised at the lengths he went to as he made a special contribution to our 25th celebrations last week.
In the famous Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong, lives a great calligrapher and artist, Yan Lei, believed to be the 78th generation of Yan Zi (or Yan Hui the top student of Confucius’s 72 students and one of the Four Sages); Yan Lei inherits the great calligraphy tradition and teachings of Confucius (551-479BC).
Geoffrey Jiang visited the temple recently and commissioned a work. He was very particular about the inscription as he said “I believe it is a true picture of what Chin Communications has followed and achieved. I hope Charles and your staff will like this script.” We certainly did Geoffrey and thanks – we also love the huge effort you made to bring it to us. It makes a good story.
The script reads 子曰：“志於道，據於德，依於仁，游於藝。”
The Master said, “Let thy will be set on the path of duty. Let every attainment in what is good be firmly grasped. Let perfect virtue be accorded with. Let relaxation and enjoyment be found in the polite arts.”
It was a two-week race against time when the artwork went missing. Qantas “came to the party” in spirit bringing this artwork to us after it was left in an overhead locker and went on a journey to Bangkok or further afield when it should have been flying to Melbourne. Geoffrey and many of the Qantas team, we thank you for your care and concern – an example of perfect virtue if ever there was one. It is now proudly hanging on the wall and reminds us of the attainments we aspire to.
